Who should read this book ?

Grokking Algorithms by Aditya Y. Bhargava is for those interested in computer science with minimal expertise in the field.

Before:

I was excited to deepen my understanding after taking a course at UIC, I discovered “Grokking Algorithms” through a YouTube search for books on Data Structures and Algorithms. Eager to learn more, I got the recommendation from a multiple YouTube creators and purchased the book for $54.99 on the Apple Store.

After:

I was appalled by my purchase after encountering lazy writing like repeated disclaimers of “this concept is outside the scope of this book.” While the author did make connections to computer science and provided illustrations to aid in conceptualization, they fell short in providing acceptable coding examples. Throughout my reading, I felt a sense of “Why am I reading this… this feels wrong.” The only redeeming aspect was Chapter 11, where the author finally delved into the broader applications of data structures and algorithms, such as abstract knowledge of SHA algorithms, parallel algorithms, and linear programming.

Conclusion:

The feeling of being overwhelmingly excited led to a disaster of disappointment.
